How it works
- Drop the video or an audio file.
- Press Make captions and wait for the list to fill.
- Edit lines or timings, then press SRT.
An SRT file is plain text. Each cue has a number, a start and end time like 00:01:02,500 --> 00:01:05,100, and one or two lines of text. Captionfox builds cues from word timestamps, so a new cue starts at a pause or at the end of a sentence, and no line runs past 42 characters.
That 42 character limit is the usual guideline for subtitles. Two lines per cue, a few seconds on screen, no overlap with the next cue. The generator enforces all three, so the file loads cleanly in YouTube Studio, Premiere, DaVinci Resolve and VLC.
Need the text only? The TXT button gives the transcript without times. VTT is the same cues in the format web players use.
Questions
Can I edit timing?
Yes. Every cue has start and end boxes in seconds. Nudge them and the export follows.
Does it work on audio files?
Yes. An MP3, WAV or M4A gives you the SRT. The burn feature needs a video.
